Four injured, goods worth ₹1 cr destroyed in two fire incidents

LUCKNOW: Four persons were injured and goods worth an estimated value of ₹1 crore were gutted in two fire incidents that took place in Qaiserbagh and Vikas Nagar areas of Lucknow, on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a fire broke out in a double-storey building located on BN Road under Qaiserbagh police station. “The fire broke out at 2:30 pm in the building’s basement which was being used as furniture workshop. The workers, who were having lunch at that time on the first floor, noticed the fire and informed about it to the fire department,” said Amit Kumar, circle officer of Qaiserbagh.

Initially, the workers also tried to douse the fire with water and fire extinguish­ers, but in vein. “We emptied two fire extinguish­ers but we failed to control the fire. We rushed out from the basement and saved our life,” said Dilshad Khan, a carpenter who worked there.

According to him, two of the workers were injured when they jumped from roof of the ground floor to save themselves from fire.

The fire reportedly started in cane and other wood items stored in the godown, said Khan.

“It took six fire tenders, two teams of local police with over a dozen of locals and over three hours to douse the fire. Furniture goods and other items worth several lakhs of rupees was reportedly gutted,” said the CO.

In another incident, a fire broke out at a garment godown at Vikas Nagar in wee hours of Wednesday. Police said the fire started at around 3 am.

A total of 14 fire tenders rushed to the spot and contained fire.Properties worth several lakhs of rupees were gutted while two workers of the godown were hurt in the incident.
