LUCKNOW: Teachers of the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) said they would go on indefinite strike from Monday if the police and the district administration failed to nab by Sunday the culprits who attacked the varsity’s vicechancellor.

“After BBAU’s ‘pen down’ strike on Wednesday, teachers and officials have decided to resume normal working from Thursday. They will, however, continue with silent protest by displaying black bands on their arms,” said Manish Verma, a senior teacher of BBAU.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, students, teachers and officials of the university burnt an effigy of the police and the district administration for failing to catch those who attacked V-C Prof NMP Verma outside his residence, near the BBAU campus, on Monday evening.

The university fraternity took out a march from the library to Ambedkar Bhawan.

Teachers also blocked the road connecting the university with Shaheed Path.

It was only after senior police officials assured the protestors that they would nab the culprits by Sunday that the road blockade was lifted.

“The police and the district administration should carry out a thorough investigation and the culprit should be booked, “said V-C Verma.

Earlier, BBAU registrar RB Ram wrote to governor Ram Naik, home minister Rajnath Singh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and DGP OP Singh in the matter.

“The V-C was brutally assaulted in South City Colony at 8:45 pm on Monday,” read the letter. “

An FIR has been filed at the Ashiana police station but no action has been taken against the culprits,” it said further.
