Town area team held hostage during raid on slaughter house

VARANASI : A group of women held a town area team hostage in Machhali Shahar of Jaunpur, when it raided an illegal slaughterh­ouse in the town on Wednesday, police said, adding that the team was immediatel­y freed and a person was arrested in this connection.

Police said that Machali Sahar town area executive officer Dheeraj Kumar Singh said that he received informatio­n that Sajju was going to slaughter a prohibited animal at an illegal slaughterh­ouse which was served closure notices many a time in the past few months.

Police said that along with a team of town area officials they carried out the raid at the slaughterh­ouse which was operationa­l at the house of Sajju. The team searched the house and recovered the meat. As the team was leaving, a group of women locked it in.

According to the police, officials said that the women tried to snatch the mobile phones of the officials. Somehow, one of the officials contacted seniors

and informed them of their situation. Senior officials along with heavy police force reached the spot. They freed the town area team and arrested an accomplice of Sajju present in the slaughterh­ouse.

Police said that he was identified as Jameel. The police team brought him to the police station.

Circle officer Vijay Kumar said a case has been registered in this connection against Sajju and his accomplice under relevant sections of the IPC, following a complaint by the executive officer Kumar against them. A team has been constitute­d to ensure arrest of Sajju.
