LUCKNOW : Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the central government was committed to making air services affordable to everyone. Flagging off the first flight for the holy city of Najaf in Iraq from Chaudhary Charan Singh airport here, Singh said: “Today, India has 100 airports. The central government has succeeded in providing air services in most parts of India.” He said the government had sanctioned Rs 13,000 crore to make air travel affordable to the common man. Chairman, National Minorities Commission, Gairul Hasan Rizvi and Shia clerics Maulana Kalbe Jawwad and Maulana Agha Roohi were also present.

LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh unveiled a bouquet of projects for Lucknow on Thursday. He dedicated the multilevel parking lot at Jyotiba Phule Park in Chowk to the public, laid the foundation stone of a multilevel parking facility at Jai Bharat Park on Nadan Mahal road and inaugurated the customer care centre of UPPCL at Hussainganj.

“One lakh vehicles are added to the roads of Lucknow every year. These would also require proper parking space and multilevel parking is one of the solutions,” he said while speaking on the occasion.

“The three-storey multilevel parking at Jyotiba Phule Park is constructed on an area of 18,337 sq m. It can accommodate 396 four-wheelers, 266 two-wheelers and 15 big vehicles at a time. The cost of the project is Rs 48.76 crore,” he said.

The minister said the aim was to make Lucknow number one city in the world in terms of civic issues. The proposed parking facility on Nadan Mahal Road would be spread over 3,400 sq m area. It would accommodate 172 four-wheelers and 150 two-wheelers at a time. The project estimated to cost Rs 14.51 crore would be completed by June 2020, added Rajnath Singh.

The home minister said the previous contractor for the Outer Ring Road was working at slow pace and that’s why he had been replaced. In the next six months, a 48-km stretch of the 104-km route would be open for traffic.

He said the New Gomti Nagar Railway Station would reduce traffic in the area near Charbagh railway station, while three more flyovers would decongest the Old City. Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the Rs 97.43 crore project to make Lucknow a ‘no tripping zone’. Foundation stones of sub-stations like Amrai Gaon in Indira Nagar and the state’s first gas insulated sub-station at Aminabad were also laid on the occasion.

The home minister also inaugurated the customer care centre of UPPCL at Hussainganj. The capacity of the centre had been increased from 60 to 90 seats, said Sanjay Goel, MD, MVVNL.
