I WAS BOOKED FOR SEDITION DESPITE BEING IN DELHI: AMUSU EX-PRESIDENT

-

ALIGARH: Former president of AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU) Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani claimed he was ‘framed’ as one of the 14 accused booked for several charges including sedition. “I was in Delhi when violence broke out on the AMU campus on Tuesday. The Draconian law of sedition is being imposed to muzzle the voice of AMU students,” he said in a statement issued from Delhi. Usmani said he was in Delhi since February 11 to lend support to a protest by Jamia students. “From news sources, I came to know that FIR has been registered against 14 students including me. This is part of the agenda to use sedition charges against anyone showing dissent against the government,” stated Usmani. “I condemn the charges against students by ABVP members. I also condemn the use of arms by some outsiders on the university campus,” he added.
