Vijyantkha­nd Stadium’s trainees hog limelight in AITA tourney

LUCKNOW : All three trainees of NIS coach Vijay Pathak at the Vijayantkh­and Stadium hogged the limelight in the Under-16 AITA Talent Series on Thursday, causing biggest upsets, at the Vinaykhand Stadium here.

Lakshya Tikoo upset second seed Shourya Singh 6-2, 6-2 to make it to the boys singles semifinals. Siddharth Kumar brushed aside fourth seed Shubham Jeet Lal 6-3, 6-3, whereas Om Yadav knocked out third seed Anshuman Singh 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) in other two quarterfin­als. Top seed Daksh Kumar Singh had a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win against Pranav Mishra to make it to the last four grade. In the girls singles quarterfin­als, Shagun Kumari beat Sasa Katiyar 6-2, 6-2, Aditi Mittal beat Apurva Chauhan 6-2, 6-1, Shakti Mishra beat Dhriti Dangwal 6-1, 6-2, and Arohi Panwar beat Yati Besain 6-4, 6-4.

AMAN EXCELS

Aman Tripathi scored a fine 85-ball 73 with the help of five boundaries as Divine Cricket Club beat Trump Starlets by 43 runs in a league match of the 2nd Phoolmati Om Prakash Saxena Memorial Tournament here. DCC piled up 203/7 in 40 overs and then restricted the rivals at 69/4 in 24 overs.

FINE BOWLING

Ansh Mishra took 5/22, whereas Nihar Rawat and Lakshya Saxena bagged 3/27 and 2/4, respective­ly as K Sports Academy beat Panthers Cricket Academy by seven wickets. While chasing 70 in 40 overs, KSA romped home in 7.5 overs, losing three wickets.

SUPERB TON

Opener Satyam Awasthi (123, 91b, 11x4, 2x6) smashed a fine century to help Youth Cricket Club score a thumping 245-run win against Lucknow Cricket Foundation in a C division match here on Thursday. Vinayak Nigam also hit 85 as YCC piled up 307/4 in 33 overs. Later, Ranveer P Singh (5/19) and Pratyush Tripathi (2/7) got the rivals out for 62 in 16.3 overs. In other C division tie, SYI Club beat Naqvi Sporting by eight wickets.

DISTRICT JUDO

The two-day District Judo Championsh­ip begins on Friday, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here. Judokas below the age of 15 can participat­e. Blind and deaf judokas will also take part in the championsh­ips.

CHESS TOURNEY

The 22nd Sunday Open Chess Tournament will see women players competing in a special category. Besides this, the age group events in Under-16, 14 and 10 would also be played.
