VARANASI : Congress general secretary (east UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra spoke to the father of Awadhesh Yadav, one of the CRPF jawans killed in Thursday’s Pulwama terror attack, over the phone, assuring him of all help possible to the family, a party leader said.

She promised the father, Harikesh Yadav, that she would visit their home in the near future, the party leader said.

Chandauli district unit Congress president Devendra Pratap Singh said, “Priyanka ji spoke to the jawan’s father, Harikesh Yadav, over the mobile phone and paid tribute to Awadhesh Yadav. She assured him that the Congress party was with the family in this hour of sorrow.”

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Raj Babbar also spoke to the jawan’s father and paid his condolences. Babbar promised that he would call on the family members soon. He also assured to extend all possible help to the family.

Priyanka also tried to speak with another slain jawan Ramesh Yadav’s father Shyam Narayan Yadav. Congress secretary Jubair Khan called up the Varanasi unit district president Prajanath Sharma and asked him to connect him with the jawan’s father.

However, the father of the jawan was performing his last rites at the time (and hence could not speak), Sharma said. Thereafter, Priyanka asked for Shyam Narayan Yadav’s number. “She took Shyam Narayan ji’s cell phone number and will speak to him soon. She may also pay a visit to the family in the near future,” Sharma said.
