IGNOU enrols octogenari­an in quest of knowledge

LUCKNOW : She is an octogenari­an who is a postgradua­te in Sanskrit and geography. But her quest of knowledge has still not ended and now 87-year-old Laxmi Srivastava (in pic) who stays at an old age hospital, has taken admission in Certificat­e Programme of IGNOU in January, 2019 session.

Laxmi is a retired teacher from the education department, UP government and staying at Aastha Old Age Hospital at Mahanagar in Lucknow. She has taken admission in six-month Certificat­e Programme in Food and Nutrition, said Kirti Vikram Singh, assistant regional director. Manorama Singh, regional director said she met Laxmi Srivastava in the Old Age Hospital during an interview for Gyanvani FM Channel of IGNOU. She said that officials of IGNOU will pay the programme fee. She added that IGNOU offers its courses through distance mode which is beneficial for those who wish to get education along with employment and social commitment­s. Founder of Aastha Old Age Hospital, Abhishek Shukla said efforts of Laxmi would encourage other senior citizens to pursue education.
