CDRI launches product to manage prostate ailments

-

LUCKNOW: A plant based functional food for management of prostate in elderly men was launched by the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) on Sunday, as the institute celebrated its 68th annual day.

The functional food, also called ‘nutraceutical product’ will help in regulating non-cancerous growth in prostate that is reported frequently in elderly men. “The product is plant based and has been cleared to be used by patients. We have partnered with a Chennai based firm for marketing and sale,” said Tapas Kumar Kundu, director CDRI.

Meanwhile, the professors and research scholars of the institute celebrated the annual day event.

Prof David G Russell, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA talked on anti-microbial therapeutics.

“For the biggest infectious disease killers like HIV, tuberculosis and malaria we lack effective vaccines, and for the majority of bacterial infections we are facing increasing incidence of drug resistance. All this in the face of reduced efforts in the development of new antibiotics because of the financial burden associated with drug development, ” said Prof Russell.
