GORAKHPUR: Sufi singer Kailash Kher, who was scheduled to perform at the ongoing Deoria Mahotsav on Saturday, cancelled his show in the wake of Pulwama attack.

The singer, who had arrived here for the show, instead visited the family of slain soldier Vijay Kumar in Jaidev Chapia village to pay homage and extend a financial assistance of ₹10 lakh.

Kher handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh each to jawan’s widow Vijaylaxmi and father Ramayana Maurya. Kher also spoke to Vijaylaxmi and promised to help her in any way possible.

Earlier on Saturday, family member of Kumar had refused to cremate the body until chief minister Yogi Adityanath visits them.

The slain jawan was cremated late night only after the chief minister spoke to the family on phone.

UP ministers Surya Pratap Shahi and Anupma Jaiswal assured all help to the family.
