Removal of religious flag: One injured in stone-pelting

VARANASI : A man was injured in stone-pelting between two gro ups over the removal of a religi ous flag at Loharana Lane in Bha dohi on Sunday, the police said.

Station officer Satyanarayan Mishra said a religious flag was unfurled at the lane during a festival some time ago, adding that a group of people asked the locals to remove the flag on Sunday.The demand led to an argument between two groups which soon took an ugly turn and resulted in a brawl and stonepelting, which caused tension in the area, he said.

Circle officer Abhishek Pandey and Mishra, along with a heavy police force, reached the spot and pacified the two groups, he said. Mishra said one Abhishek Gupta was injured in the stone-pelting and both sides had filed complaints. The matter is being probed. The situation was under control and police had been deployed as a precautionary measure, he said..
