LUCKNOW: Spirited Uttar Pradesh notched up a fascinating 99-run win against Tamil Nadu to score their second win in as many as three matches in the Under-23 one-day league, at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur on Sunday.

Opener Madhav Kaushik and Shubham Chaubey slammed sparkling centuries to help Uttar Pradesh post 307/5 after being sent to first, and later Trishal Vijay Trivedi and Mohd Saif bagged five and four wickets, respectively to see Tamil Nadu collapsing for 208 in 43.2 overs.

Madhav, who has been in a tremendous form this season, showing his class with willow in Ranji Trophy, struck 114-ball 10 with the help of seven fours and four sixes, whereas Shubham remained unbeaten on 100, which came off 61 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes.

Before being caught by M Siddharth off H Trilok Nag, Kaushik and Shubham stitched together 91-run for the fourth-wicket, before Shubham raising unbeaten 54-run with Hannan Rizwan (11, 9b, 1x4).

Opener Almas Shaukat (21, 41b, 3x4) was the first to go after being caught by S Lokeshwar off Mohanprasath S. Next man Karan Sharma (37, 57b, 2x4, 1x6) was the trapped leg before by Sonu Yadav, but it didn’t make a difference to Madhav and Shubham as the two continued to stroke the ball well beyond the boundary all-around the ground.

R Sonu Yadav (2/61) and Mohanprasath S (2/56) took two wickets each, whereas H Trilok Nag had 1/65 for Tamil Nadu.

Chasing never looked easy for Tamil Nadu, which after losing opener Kavin Ravi (6) kept losing wickets on regular intervals. Though fellow opener K Mukunth and S Lokeshwar raised 70-run for the second wicket, it couldn’t help side score freely then. Trishal had Mukunth (42, 39b, 9x4), whereas Mohammad Saif accounted for S Lokeshwar, who made 58 in 76 balls with the help of four boundaries befor being caught by Hannan.

Tailender M Siddarth came up with a quick fire 29-ball 30 with the help of three boundaries, to no avail as Tamil Nadu’s struggle came to an end at 208 in 43.2 overs. Trishal had his maiden five-wicket haul of the season, conceding just 23 runs, whereas with 4/56, Saif took his wickets tally to nine in three games so far.

Now, Uttar Pradesh, which stand at fourth place with eight points in combined Elite Group A and B, play their next match against Punjab on Wednesday. Karnataka lead the table with 12 points, and are followed by Punjab and Delhi also with 12 points each.
