Citizens take out candle marches, hold prayer meets to pay tribute to slain soldiers
LUCKNOW: Citizens continued protests and took out candle marches on Monday against the Pulwama terror attack. Prayer meetings were also organised to pay homage to the CRPF jawans killed in the incident.
CHRIST CHURCH COLLEGE’S GESTURE
As emotions ran high across the country, the present and former students of Christ Church College, their parents and staff took out a peace march from the college to Hazratganj crossing to express anguish over the Pulwama incident and paid tribute to the jawans killed in the attack.
“The procession stopped near GPO Park where religious leaders Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahli, Gurmeet Singh and Roma Joseph offered prayers and paid homage to the soldiers,” said RK Chattree, principal, Christ Church College.
Christ Church College also donated ₹2 lakh for the families of slain soldiers. The amount was sent to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. The principal requested the staff and students of the college to contribute towards this fund.
ERA’S MED COLLEGE
Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital offered to bear the education expenses of children of CRPF jawans killed in Pulwama terror attack. Chancellor of the university Abbas Ali Mehandi said people across the country should come forward to help the bereaved families. The staff of the institution also observed a twominute silence as a mark of tribute to the deceased soldiers.
SUPPORTING EDU OF JAWANS’ CHILDREN
Seth MR Jaipuria School, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow expressed grief over the loss of CRPF jawans. Vice-chairperson Anjali Jaipuria decided to support the education of children of three slain jawans -Shyam Babu, Ajit Kumar Azad and Pradeep Singh – till Class 12. The children Isha Azad (Class 3), Shreya Azad (Class 1), Ayush (KG) and Supriya (Class 5) can either study in Seth MR Jaipuria, Gomti Nagar or continue studies in the school in which they are studying at present.
To pay tribute to the slain jawans, traders of Aminabad, Nazirabad, Mahanagar and Aliganj, under the banner of Adarsh Vyapar Mandal, took out a bike rally from Nishatganj to Hazratganj. They shouted slogans like ‘Hindustan Zindabad’. A few traders in these markets also downed shutters for a few hours to protest the Pulwama attack. Sanjay Gupta, president, UP Adarsh Vyapar Mandal, said traders will set up a fund to sponsor the education of the kids of those who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack.
SIKH COMMUNITY
The Sikh community in Lucknow held a special prayer meeting to pay tribute to the CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack. Sikh leaders Harminder Singh and Satbir Singh demanded that the government gives a befitting reply to those conspiring against the nation.
CANDLE MARCH BY RESIDENTS’ ASSN
The South City Residents’ Association also paid homage to CRPF personnel killed in Pulwama. Members of the association, led by Madhu Garg, demanded that the government expedite assistance to the families of soldiers killed in the terror attack. The residents also took out a candle march.
Meanwhile, the residents’ welfare association of Sector 10, Indira Nagar held a condolence meeting for CRPF personnel killed in Pulwama. They also took out a procession in Gautam Buddha Park and observed two-minute silence, before expressing anguish against the terrorists.
BENGALI CLUB’S PAYS HOMAGE
Bengali Club & Youngmen’s Association also paid homage to the slain jawans. Prominent citizens including former DGP AL Banerjee (IPS retired), Enakshi Sinha, Deb Bhattacharya, Sanjay Ghosh and others participated in a candle march, said Arun Banerjee, president of the club.
AIMWPLB PROCESSION
Members of the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) took out a march on Sunday to pay tribute to CRPF jawans killed in Pulwama. Board’s president Shaista Ambar said such processions are to gather support against terror activities. “A procession was carried out near KGMU on Sunday while another procession will be taken out on Tuesday, in which leaders of all communities will participate to give a message of unity,” she added.
CM’S TRIBUTE
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Major DS Dhondhiyal, head constable Sevaram, constables Ajay Kumar and Hari Singh who were killed in another incident in J&K’s Pulwama district. He said these soldiers would always be remembered for their supreme sacrifice for the defence of the nation. The chief minister also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of jawans.
EX-MLC DONATES PENSION
Congress ex-MLC Siraj Mehandi announced to donate one month’s pension to the families of jawans killed in Pulwama. He said the state government had yet not set up a relief fund to help the victims of Pulwama terror attack.
