Pitambari nets a brace in Lucknow Hostel’s victory
LUCKNOW : Two goals in the second half by Pitambari helped favourites Lucknow Hostel crush Mirzapur by 5-0 in a league match of the State Junior Girls Hockey Tournament, at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Stadium here on Monday.
Pitambari struck in the 40th and 53rd minutes, respectively. Pallavi Kumar, Varsha Arya and Archana Bhardwaj scored a goal each.
In other matches of the day, Jhansi beat Saharanpur 3-0, Mirzapur beat Ayodhaya 1-0, Meerut beat Gorakhpur 3-0, Azamgarh beat Kanpur 3-1, Jhansi beat Ayodhyaya 5-0, whereas Gorakhpur and Bareilly split points after playing a goalless draw.
ELECTED
Secretary of the Lucknow Dis- trict Athletics Association, BR Varun has been elected as one of the joint secretaries of the UP Athletics Association at its annual general meeting here. For one more time, Kunwar Fateh Bahadur and PK Srivastava have been elected president and secretary, respectively.
FINE BOWLING
Ashutosh Verma took 4/13, whereas Manish Singh and Aman Singh bagged three and two wickets, respectively as Hindustan Fire Club defeated San- deep Cricket Academy by nine wickets in a league match of the 2nd Phoolmati Om Prakash Saxena Memorial Tournament here on Monday. SCA were bowled out at 74 in 21.4 overs, and on reply, HFC romped home in 9.4 overs, losing one wicket.

Vinayak Nigam struck 93-ball 216 with the help of 21 fours and 16 sixes as Youth Cricket Club crushed Gulmohar Cricket Academy by 361 runs in a C division league match, at the Microlit Ground here on Monday. YCC piled up 455/8 in 40 overs while batting first after winning the toss. In reply, GCA could make 94/9 in 29.5 overs.
FINAL TRIAL
The final trials to select sportspersons at the state governmentrun Guru Govind Singh Sports College, Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College and Safai Sports College begin on March 2 across locations in the state. Only the successful candidates at the preliminary exams, results of which have already been declared, can participate in the final trials, states acting principal of the sports college, Vijay Kumar Gupta.
