Teachers, students protest ‘police laxity’ in nabbing attackers
LUCKNOW:Agitated over failure of police in arresting the two unidentified culprits who attacked the vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), NMP Verma, eight days ago, teachers and students of the university took out a protest march on Tuesday.
They burnt effigy of district administration and police outside the university gate. Teachers threatened to intensify their stir if police did not arrest the attackers within 48 hours. The two unidentified men had assaulted the VC outside the campus gate, however, police are yet to make any arrest in this connection, they said. “We have been very patient and gave enough time to the police to arrest those who attacked the vice chancellor. We gave a deadline to the police to arrest the culprits by Sunday, but they failed. Aashiana SHO, Brijessh Singh has now asked for another two days time,” said Rachna Gangwar, spokesperson of the university.
She said that teachers were determined to go on indefinite strike if the police failed to nab them within two days. “Teachers have also decided to meet chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma and other top BJP leaders to mount pressure on the police,” she said. “The police should carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and nab the culprits at the earliest,” said the VC. Earlier, BBAU registrar RB Ram had also written to governor Ram Naik, home minister Rajnath Singh, CM and DGP OP Singh regarding the incident and sought their intervention into the matter.
