VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit back at opposition leaders for mocking semi-high speed train Vande Bharat Express, terming it to be an insult to engineers and technicians.

Addressing a public meeting in his parliamentary constituency, the PM said: “Vande Bharat Express has been developed in the country under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Many people have written me praising the achievement. However, some people are targeting and making fun of the train. This is very painful.” He said it was an insult to engineers and technicians involved in the project and gave a world class train to the country. Congress president Rahul Gandhi had attacked the ‘Make in India’ campaign and PM Modi after the Vande Bharat Express suffered a snag on its maiden return journey on Saturday.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had on Sunday taken to Twitter to attack the BJP government after the Vande Bharat Express developed a technical snag.

Hitting out at the opposition leaders, Modi said: “We should be wary of such people who are full of negativity. There is no need to get demoralised from negativity,” he said.

He also hailed the conversion loco which has been made at Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) by converting two old diesel engines into one electric rail engine.

FOCUS ON FARMERS

Highlighting the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, the PM appealed to the people to give a befitting reply to those who were spreading lies.

“Earlier, there used to be tall claims about loan waivers once in 10 years. Loans worth Rs 55,000 were waived off. On an average, 20-25 farmers used to be benefitted by it in each village. Now, we have a scheme under which Rs 7.5 lakh crore will be directly deposited into the accounts of farmers in 10 years. The scheme will benefit about 2.25 crore farmers of UP,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the PM paid tribute to Sant Guru Ravidas on his birth anniversary and recalled his teachings.

“His teachings on social harmony, equality and empowerment continue to inspire us even today,” he said.
