LUCKNOW : After a long wait of nine years, work on the 965metres-long Kukrail flyover is finally complete. The work had started in 2009 but was stopped in 2010 when the Army objected to construction in its area without its permission.

The four -lane flyover which was aimed at offloading traffic from Faizabad Road, Lohia Path and polytechnic crossing was schedule to be completed in two years but land dispute between the Army and the district administration threw the schedule out of gear. The Army claimed the land as its own and didn’t allow the UP State Bridge Corporation to work d. It finally gave permission in 2017.

“Work started in 2018 and the flyover is now complete,” said GM, projects UP State Bridge Corporation, Arvind Kumar Srivastava.

The residents of Khurram Nagar, Mahanagar, Kalyanpur, Sitapur Road, Aliganj, Munshipulia and parts of Indira Nagar are likely to benefit from this flyover, which was scheduled to be operational from December 25. Home minister Rajnath Singh was keen to inaugurate it on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

He was personally monitoring the progress of the work from Delhi. But at that time the work on the bridge was not complete.

Project incharge of Kukrail overbridge Arvind Kumar Srivastava said now the bridge was ready for traffic and it was for the authorities to fix a date for its inauguration.

However, sources in the administration said there was a possibility of its inauguration on the day when the Lucknow Metro would be flagged off.
