UP tourism to team up with OYO for more rooms to tourists
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Tourism department has shown interest for a joint partnership with OYO, India’s largest hospitality company, to provide quality and affordable rooms to tourists visiting the state.
Additional chief secretary and head of the tourism department Awanish Awasthi extended the offer to the OYO officials here at a function on Wednesday. The OYO launched its two Townhouse units in the city today.
“The state requires more rooms for tourists. The UP is emerging as the most desired tourist destination in the country. We have witness shortage of rooms during the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Varanasi in January and later in Kumbh at Prayagraj even after making record arrangements through tent houses and other facilities,” Awasthi said.
“OYO is a reputed Indian company and it has earned a good name in the hospitality sector. As UP require huge number of rooms to promote tourism, hence, it would be better for the state to go for a partnership with this company,” he said.
Senior officials of the state tourism department too have started talks with the OYO for the partnership and soon an agreement could be singed.
Chief operating officer (COO), OYO Hotels and Homes, Ankit Tandon, said: “The overwhelming response to our properties in Lucknow has been a key driver to launch our mid-market offering OYO Townhouse. The company is now focusing on the new-age travellers.”
