Uttar Pradesh to get 15 new medical colleges, says chief minister

KANPUR :UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said here today that the state would soon get 15 new medical colleges, two AIIMS and two more super specialty hospitals. However, he expressed concern over the apathy of doctors in serving in rural areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Yogi said that there were only 13 medical colleges in the state but now 13 more medical colleges were being set up with the assistance of the Union Government and the state government would set up two medical colleges with its own funds.

The CM was in the city to lay the foundation stone of the Super Speciality Block in the auditorium of the GSVM Medical College on Wednesday. Before inaugurati­ng the block, the chief minister garlanded the statue of martyr Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi on the college premises.

Besides, the government would issue golden cards to people who could not be covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme of the prime minister. The cards would be issued to all such people from March 1, he added.He said about six crore people in the state were covered under the Ayushman Scheme but about 56 crore people of the state who could not be covered under the scheme would be given golden cards for their treatment up to Rs five lakh per annum per person.The Super Speciality Block is being constructe­d under the fourth phase of Pradahan Mantri Swasth Suraksha Yojana (PMHSY) and would be constructe­d at a total outlay of Rs 200 crore by April 2020. Sixty percent of the total constructi­on cost of the Block will be borne by the Union government while the UP government will pay 40% of the total cost. The Super Speciality Block will have 240 beds. Patients suffering from neurologic­al problems, urological complicati­ons, abdominal problems, orthopaedi­c and several critical diseases would be treated at this Block.

The CM said that two new AIIMS were being set up at Gorakhpur and Rai Bareli while a hospital in Varanasi has been upgraded to AIIMS.
