LUCKNOW: Beware! violation of Lucknow Metro rules will invite heavy fines and even imprisonment in some cases.
LMRC will impose a fine of Rs 500 on people found spitting paan/gutkha inside the coach or on the Metro station while the same penalty will be applicable on passengers entering the Metro coach or premises in an inebriated state. Crossing the track would invite a fine of Rs 1,000.
“In one year of Metro’s commercial operations on the 8-km stretch, no one has been fined because of entering the coach in a drunken condition or entering into a brawl with fellow passengers/metro staff,” said Kumar Keshav, MD, LMRC.
“Unauthorised entry by a passenger can lead to imprisonment of up to three months or fine up to Rs 250, or both. We have acted against some passengers for unauthorised entry into the
Metro station,” he said.
Keshav added, “People spitting inside the coach, chewing paan masala/tobacco, smoking, peeing, holding demonstration, sticking material on Metro premises can face imprisonment up to 6 months or fine of up to Rs 1,000 or both.”
Besides, those who indulge in needless interference with the communication system or misusing the alarm could face a fine of up to Rs 1000 or imprisonment up to one year or both.
There are stricter rules against wrecking trains, track and acts of sabotage -- such people can face life imprisonment or rigorous imprisonment up to 10 years or death sentence.
