Violation of Lucknow Metro rules to invite heavy penalty

A fine of ₹500 will be imposed on those spitting paan/gutkha in the coach. Passengers found crossing the track will have to pay ₹1,000

LUCKNOW: Beware! violation of Lucknow Metro rules will invite heavy fines and even imprisonme­nt in some cases.

LMRC will impose a fine of Rs 500 on people found spitting paan/gutkha inside the coach or on the Metro station while the same penalty will be applicable on passengers entering the Metro coach or premises in an inebriated state. Crossing the track would invite a fine of Rs 1,000.

“In one year of Metro’s commercial operations on the 8-km stretch, no one has been fined because of entering the coach in a drunken condition or entering into a brawl with fellow passengers/metro staff,” said Kumar Keshav, MD, LMRC.

“Unauthoris­ed entry by a passenger can lead to imprisonme­nt of up to three months or fine up to Rs 250, or both. We have acted against some passengers for unauthoris­ed entry into the

Metro station,” he said.

Keshav added, “People spitting inside the coach, chewing paan masala/tobacco, smoking, peeing, holding demonstrat­ion, sticking material on Metro premises can face imprisonme­nt up to 6 months or fine of up to Rs 1,000 or both.”

Besides, those who indulge in needless interferen­ce with the communicat­ion system or misusing the alarm could face a fine of up to Rs 1000 or imprisonme­nt up to one year or both.

There are stricter rules against wrecking trains, track and acts of sabotage -- such people can face life imprisonme­nt or rigorous imprisonme­nt up to 10 years or death sentence.

Traveling without ticket or beyond authorised distance---Fine up to ~50/- plus the ordinary signal fare of the distance travelled or imprisonme­nt of 1 month. Imprisonme­nt up to 10 yrs for damage to Metro railways property
