ALIGARH: A film on mob lynching, made by a mass communication student, was adjudged the best entry during ‘Filmsaaz’ – the three-day film festival organised at Aligarh Muslim University. The film ‘Khat’, based on the narrative of the family which lost a member to mob lynching, was screened thrice during the film festival.

Ketan Dixit, who made the film, is a student of mass communication and also works as media officer for Café Sheroes Hangout run by acid attack fighters in Agra. “Forty short films were screened during Filmsaaz but ‘Khat’, based on mob lynching, was adjudged best,” confirmed public relation officer of Aligarh Muslim University.

Noted actor Zishan Ayub gave the award to Ketan.

“As many as 88 were killed in different cases of mob lynching in India since 2015. The film is based on the agony that family members undergo after a near and dear one dies at the hands of a mob. The story revolves around Baba Noor whose son Yusuf was lynched,” said Ketan.

“The disconsolate father loses his memory and awaits a letter from his son. He visits the post office every day but in vain. The plot is a modern version of writing by famous writer Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi ,” said Ketan after receiving the award.

“The film, dedicated to those killed in mob lynching and their family members, was screened thrice at the AMU film fest,” said Dixit who now plans to screen it at other film festivals organised nationwide.

Ketan Dixit was supported in direction by Badruzzama Siddiqui and Ikra Khan and the film was edited by Amit Vijay Kaushal from Bollywood.
