LUCKNOW : The state government is all set to amend the UP Zamind ari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950 to increase the ceiling of land holding for an individual from the existing 12.5 acres.

The government has taken the decision to accelerate industrialisation process in the state.

For several years, industrialists had been demanding abolition of this law or increase in limit of land holding for industrial purpose.

The UP Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act ,1950 put a cap of 12.5 acres for individual land holding.

At present, only under special circumstances, division al commissioner scan allow acquisition of land in excess of 12.5 acres – only for industrial purposes.

The state government had delegated this power under section 154 (2) of the UP Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950, to divisional commissioners by government notification issued on May 30, 1994. However, even approval by division al com- missioners took prolonged periods.

At the CII’s UP State Annual Session 2019, on Friday, Santosh Yadav, secretary, infrastructure and industrial development, assured industrialists that the government would soon amend the UP Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950, to increase individual limit of land holding.

“The government will soon amend the Zamindari Abolition Act, 1950 to increase individual land holding for industrial purpose from existing limit of 12.5 acres,” said Santosh Yadav. However, he did not disclose the new ceiling limit.

He also underlined the improvements made in the Nivesh Mitra portal to enhance user experience.

Seventy services are offered by 20 government departments through the portal.

“In the past seven months, 29,000 people have applied for clearances, of which 20,000 have already been cleared as per process within the stipulated time with 80% satisfaction rate,” said Yadav.

Manoj Gupta, chairman, CII, UP State Council, said that with a number of infrastructure projects proposed in this year’s budget by the state government, the industry is hopeful of enhanced business activity this financial year.

“The proposed Jewar and Ayodhya airports, the Agra and Kanpur Metro rail projects, the Gorakhpur and Bundelkhand link expressways will ensure better connectivity across the state,” said Gupta.
