Woman’s body found, police suspect rape

LUCKNOW: Body of an unidentifi­ed 40-year-old woman was found lying in naked condition in the forest area of Mo han la lg anj here on Thursday night. Initial police findings suggested the woman was murdered after being sexually assaulted.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examinatio­n and efforts are onto as certain the victim’s identity. Inspector of Mohanlalga­nj police station, Gaudeen Shukla said the body wasfound in the forest area near Dhanuasaad village after some villagers spotted it. He said it appears the woman died at least 24 hours back.

He said the woman appears to be a beggar or a pavement dweller. Hesaid the police teams have been deployed to ascertain the identity as well as all police station in-charges have been alerted to contact if any woman was reported missing from their areas. He said the police officials of adjoining districts including Unnao, Rae Bare lian dB arab an ki have also been informed about

the body.

He said the body has been sent to the mortuary of King George’ s Medical University and its postmortem examinatio­n will be conducted after waiting for 72 hours.

A local said the body was totally naked and a rope was tightened around the neck which hints that the woman was strangulat­ed. He said severe injuries were also visible on her head and other parts of the body. He said the jungle area often remains deserted even during the daytime and very few villagers visit the area to collect fire wood or attend nature’s call. He said the body’s condition and the circumstan­ces clearly hinted that the woman was sexually assaulted.
