LLR docs perform first hip joint replacement surgery
KANPUR:Doctors at the LLR Hospital have conducted the first total hip replacement (THR) surgery of a 52-year-old female patient under the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme using un-cemented implant free of cost.
Doctors, including head of the surgery department of GSVM Medical College Dr Sanjay Kala along with Dr Fahim Ansari, operated upon Hasina Bano of Bahua village in Fatehpur. She had slipped from the stairs and suffered hip bone fracture.
Dr Kala said un-cemented implant was used in the surgery which would join the bones permanently and the patient would be able to walk within a month.
He said the patient did not have to bear any expenses as it was free under the scheme.
Kala added that in such surgeries using un-cemented implant, no adhesives are used. It is costly and effective surgery which is mostly preferred by the young patients. He said at present four patients have taken dates for surgery under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Under the scheme government aims to cover over 50 crore beneficiaries who would get health cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation. It also aims to minimise the ‘catastrophic’ expenditure that people are subjected to during hospitalisation.
Dr Ansari said the patient was brought to the OPD after Fatehpur doctors failed to treat her.
According to Dr Ansari in cases where bones have the capacity to join in natural process, un-cemented implants are used.
