‘Good docs, quality equipment must to improve med services’
LUCKNOW: A seminar ‘Medical education and practice: Where do we stand?’ was organised here by Bharat Jyoti, an organisation and Assocham, on Sunday.
Speaking in the seminar, experts stressed on quality medical education to produce good doctors in the country.
Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), director Prof Rakesh Kapoor said that apart from good doctors it was also necessary to ensure availability of quality equipment under some standard protocol. A medical expert, Vijay Acharya said that medical education should be of high standard as it affects a large number of people in the country. “Standard of healthcare services have improved, but the standard of specialists has fallen which has made direct impact upon the services,” he said.
RK Porwal, the chief coordinator of the seminar, said the public perception about doctors was not good. “People complain that doctors over prescribe tests that are actually not required and earn commission on tests. Besides, they also sell medicine via their own resources. Doctors should think about it and change this perception,” he said.
Experts stressed that medical education should be such that it caters to the medical care needs of the people.
Among present were Prof KM Singh, former vice chancellor KGHU, Rajat Mathur, president of Saraswati dental and medical college and AK Singh.
