Whither hygiene? Meerut medical college washrooms in a filthy state

-

MEERUT : Toilet facilities in government offices, colleges and hospitals in the city were found to be a combination of good upkeep and utter negligence.

In a reality check of toilets at Sardar Vallabhai Patel Medical College and Hospital, it was found that dirty water was spilled over the entire floor and patients had to step on it. The stink in toilets was unbearable for the users.

The doors had no proper locks and hence it became difficult for people to use them. The urinals were broken, stained and filthy.

In contrast, the situation at Chaudhary Charan Singh University was better as toilets here were clean and hygienic.

In Government Inter College, the toilets were broken, filled with dirt and seemed that due to its poor upkeep, they were not in use. The toilets were soiled and grimy and were not in the usable condition. Also the seats and the adjacent walls were broken and most of the doors were missing.

The newly built toilets at the Vikas Bhawan (CDO office campus) had all the required facilities and the cleanliness was well maintained.

Proper washbasins and water taps were installed here and hygiene was maintained. The toilets at the Pyarelal Sharma District Hospital were found to be freshly cleaned. Though some of the toilet seats were broken, most of the toilets were in usable condition and were fairly equipped with sanitary facilities.
