CBI ARRESTS TWO RAILWAY OFFICIALS FOR TAKING BRIBE

PRAYAGRAJ : A team of central bureau of investigat­ion (CBI) arrested two senior railway officials of Allahabad division of the North Central Railway (NCR) for taking bribe on late Saturday night, said railway officials.

The officials including senior DSTE (signalling) Niraj Puri Goswami and DSTE (east) PK Singh were caught red-handed while accepting Rs 6 lakh and Rs 4 lakh as bribe respective­ly.

The CBI officials interrogat­ed the duo after taking them into custody and checked documents in their chambers till late night and later took them to Lucknow for further investigat­ion. The officials were arrested following the complaint by a contractor. In his complaint, the contractor informed the CBI that the officials were demanding money to pass bills. Following the complaint, the CBI made a plan to trap the officials.

As per the plan, the contractor called one of the officials at Balson crossing to hand over the money.

Here, the CBI team caught him taking the bribe from the contractor. The other official too was arrested in a similar fashion. The railway officials informed that the officials had demanded money from the contractor against sanctionin­g the bill of works to be carried out Karchana and Manuri stations.

“The CBI has informed that it has arrested two senior officials on corruption charges. The report of the CBI will be sent to NCR headquarte­rs and to the Railway Board on Monday. We will surely take disciplina­ry action against the erring officials. They will not be spared,” said divisional railway manager, Allahabad division Amitabh.
