LUCKNOW : To motivate government-run primary and upper primary school teachers to give their best, the state basic education department is encouraging them to shoot small videos of their colleagues who are doing innovative things to make teaching-learning more interactive.

“This will not only encourage teachers who are already engaged in good academic work but also motivate others to learn few new things and adopt them in their teaching module to make learning a joyful experience for students,” said director basic education, Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh here on Monday.

He said, “Letters have been sent to Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) of every district to ask teachers to record videos of 3-5 minutes duration highlighting the new methodology adopted to make classroom teaching a joyful experience for all.”

Singh said a team of officials would see the videos and the teachers engaged in doing something innovative would be rewarded. The best practices would be jotted down and circulated to other teachers .

For instance, taking a cue from the popular television game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC), a teacher of a government upper primary school in Barabanki is making learning a fun experience for students. Donning the role of the show’s host Amitabh Bachchan, teacher Ashutosh Anand Awasthi enacts the game show in the classroom, much to the delight of the children.

Likewise, the management of primary school Kunwarpur Banwari in Kannauj district recognised the efforts of mothers working hard with their children at home and felicitated them at a function organised recently on the institute’s premises.

An official explained, “A student getting honoured for good work at school is common. But have you heard of a student’s mother being honoured for doing what she does as part of her everyday responsibilities -- sending the child to school regularly and on time, ensuring that the uniform is clean, shoes polished, hair combed neatly and all homework done. This school has just done this to strengthen the connection with the students and their families, and keep motivation levels high.”

There are several other school teachers who are doing new things to make teaching-learning enjoyable for students. Now the basic education department wanted to felicitate these teachers for such good work, he said.
