HC cancels gang-rape accused ex-MLA’s bail

PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad high court on Monday cancelled the bail of former MLA Tajendra Sagar alias Yogendra Sagar and directed him to surrender before police by April 1, 2019 failing which he would be arrested .

Sagar was allegedly involved in a 2008 gang rape case. An FIR was registered at police station Bilsi of Badaun district in this connection. The bail cancellati­on order was passed by justice Sudhir Agarwal on an applicatio­n filed by father of the rape victim. The court found that despite NBW issued against him, he had been absconding and surrendere­d in March 2014, only when the court directed the state police officials to either appear before it or arrest the accused . “Even after 5 years since former MLA was released on bail, trial of the case could not be completed and it is a fit case of misuse of bail and also that bail granted to MLA deserves to be cancelled”, the court observed.
