LUCKNOW: In a scene reminiscent of Hindi films, two sacked police constables who had been absconding for over two years with criminal charges against them, reached the district court here in burqa to surrender on Monday evening.

The former constables, identified as Anil Singh and Dhirendra Yadav, were wanted for framing four youths in a false case. Sub inspector (SI)Dhirendra Shukla who was the co-accused in the matter was arrested from the campus of Aliganj police station earlier this month.

SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani had announced a cash reward of Rs 15,000 on them heads in February

Circle officer of Chowk DP Tewari, who is investigation officer of the case, said the trio was charged for framing four youths in the false case of possessing illegal firearms, at the behest of a hardened criminal Aqeel Ansari.

He said four separate FIRs were registered against them at Thakurganj, Saadatganj and Hasanganj police stations on January 19, 2017. On the basis of the findings, they were also charged under Prevention of Corruption Act , he added.

The trio was reported to be absconding after the incident.

It is to be noted that the S I and the two constables were also suspected of connivance with Aqeel Ansari in the killing of oil trader Sarwan Sahu, 58, who was shot dead by two contract killers at his shop in Saadatganj on February 1, 2017.

The Central Bureau Investigation is presently handling the case of the trader’s murder.
