146 NOMINATIONS FOR FIRST PHASE OF LOK SABHA POLLS
LUCKNOW/MEERUT: Chief electoral officer (CEO), UP, L Venkateshwar Lu on Monday said 146 candidates filed their nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election on the eight seats going to poll on April 11. Out of them, 123 candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday alone, the last day for filing the nomination papers, he said.
Sixteen candidates filed their nomination papers from Saharanpur, 20 each from Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar, 17 from Gautam Buddha Nagar, 15 from Bijnor, 13 from Meerut and 12 from Baghpat. Lu said 43 nomination papers were also filed from the eight Lok Sabha seats going to poll in the second phase on April 18, he said. RLD chief Ajit Singh, his son Jayant Choudhary, Satyapal Singh (BJP), Rajendra Agarwal (BJP), General VK Singh (BJP) and union minister Mahesh Sharma were among prominent candidates who filed their papers in their respective constituencies. Rajendra Agarwal filed papers to attempt a hat trick in the election in Meerut-Hapur Lok Sabha constituency. Mahesh Sharma submitted his nomination from Gautam Buddhnagar constituency and General VK Singh filed papers from Ghaziabad. RLD’s Jayant is contesting from Baghpat constituency. He filed his nomination there with his supporters while his father and RLD chief Ajit Singh filed papers in Muzaffarnagar. BJP candidate and former minister, Sanjeev Baliyan also filed his nomination from Muzaffarnagar. Union minister and former Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh filed his nomination from Baghpat constituency. He will take on Jayant Chaudhary here after defeating Ajit Singh in the previous election (2014).
