SIT files charge sheet against Atiq, others

LUCKNOW: The UP Police’s Special Investigat­ion Team(SIT), which was investigat­ing a Lucknow-based trader’s allegation that former MP Atiq Ahmed and his aides assaulted him inside prison, submitted a charge sheet in the Lucknow district court on Monday.

Superinten­dent of police (East) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the SIT report charged former lawmaker Atiq Ahmed, Mukhtar, Alamgir, Barkat Ali Ansari and four others with kidnapping, dacoity along with 13 other criminal charges.

The SIT was formed on the complaint of a Lucknow-based realtor Mohit Jaiswal who, in December 2018, alleged that he was kidnapped from outside his house in Krishna Nagar, and forcibly taken to the Deoria prison. the realtor to transfer five of his firms in their names.

The combined firms were evaluated to be worth Rs 45 crore. The criminals also took away Jaiswal’s SUV and other belongings before letting him off, the trader alleged.

Based on Jaiwal’s complaint, an FIR was lodged at Krishnanag­ar police station. Mohit Jaiswal told police that Atiq and his son Umar Ahmad were present when he was tortured. Atiq Ahmed was shifted from Deoria to Bareilly district prison after the alleged incident.
