Dist admn to issue fresh guidelines for idol immersion

-

LUCKNOW : The district administration will hold a meeting on Wednesday to issue fresh guidelines for idol immersion during Durga Puja. This is aimed at keeping the Gomti’s pollution level to a bare minimum.

Officials with the district administration said the fresh guidelines would be issued to all the Durga Puja committees in a meeting at DM’s office.

“We have called a meeting of Durga Puja samitis on the issue of cleanliness and pollution. In the meeting, the advisory would be issued to the samitis to ensure that idol immersion does not pollute the river,” an administrative official said.

As per the guidelines, synthetic material should not be used for decorating the idols. Only natural paints should be used on the idols so that they get dissolved easily and don’t affect the colour of the water.

The guidelines further restrict the use of artificial flowers during immersion. Besides, the guidelines state that ‘puja samagri’ should not be dumped into the river. Instead, it should be disposed of in a separate pit that would be dug on the banks of the river, especially for this purpose.

Kaushal Raj Sharma, district magistrate said, “The efforts are being made to keep the pollution level in river Gomti to bare minimum and to ensure idol immersion in traditional but pollution free way. We will issue instructions to carry out the immersion in prescribed manner.”
