TENSION IN AGRA VILLAGE AFTER MINOR YOUTH ‘ABDUCTS’ GIRL

AGRA: Tension was palpable between two communitie­s of Semra village in Khandoli region of Agra district after a minor youth from a minority community was blamed for kidnapping a minor girl from the other community. Hundreds of protestors lodged a protest against the incident and targeted the house of the youth and set on fire shops of the minority community on Tuesday evening. After getting informatio­n, senior police officials rushed to the village and claimed that situation was well under control. The minor girl went missing on Tuesday afternoon and an FIR was lodged later in the day against a youth, also a minor. Later, a group of youths assembled and set about half a dozen shops on fire and ransacked a shop. Fire tenders were pressed into service and a heavy force was deployed. “Adequate police force was deployed in Semra village after the violence on Tuesday. A minor youth from one community was accused of kidnapping and a case was registered against him. The protest was lodged on Tuesday evening by group of youths,” said Agra range inspector general of police (IG) A Satish Ganesh, who reached the village. “The district magistrate and the senior superinten­dent of police, Agra, are camping in the village and peace committees have been activated to hold a meeting. The situation is under control as no major damage was caused nor anyone was injured,” the IG Agra Range claimed.
