Govt to soon come out with resuscitation protocol
LUCKNOW: Soon, the government will release ‘resuscitation protocols’ that would make it easy for medical practitioners to take a call on putting a patient on life support, said director of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) here on Saturday.
Prof Balram Bhargava was speaking during the annual conference of the UP chapter of association of physicians of India UP-APICON-2019.
“We hope to get the protocols by December,” said Dr D Himanshu, coordinator of the conference. He said as per the protocol, it will be possible to take patient’s prior consent whether he/she wants to go on a ventilator support on being critically ill or not and also the family can take a decision during illness.
“Often there is a confusion in family about putting a patient on ventilator or not. If there are three sons they might not take a collective decision. With protocol a medical practitioner on the basis of certain tests may also advise the family,” he said.
He said in some countries such a decision is taken by individuals while they are healthy so that whenever they fall ill the decision taken by them is upheld by the treating doctor/ hospital.
Prof Bhargava also said soon each medical college will be assigned to run 10-wellness centres each in their respective areas. Prof Bhargava also said generic medicines will be given more focus.
“Medical institutes know the importance of health and wellness hence they shall be able to run the centres smoothly,” said Dr Himanshu.Speaking on the need for research, Prof Bhargava said promoting quality research was being done on a mission mode.
