Lucknow celebrates jayanti with prayers, cleanlines­s drives

STUDENTS JOIN ‘GANDHI SOLAR YATRA’

As many as 713 students of the City Montessori Schools participat­ed in ‘Gandhi Solar Yatra’, an event organised in coordinati­on with the Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai at the CMS Gomti Nagar Extension campus. There were 411 students from the Gomti Nagar Extension campus, 175 from the Kanpur Road campus, 111 from the Aliganj campus, nine from the Rajajipura­m-I campus and seven from the Rajendra Nagar-III campus. The students assembled the solar study lamps under the guidance of their teachers. ‘Environmen­t coordinato­rs’ Shiksha Tripathi, Saloni, Sonali Chaudhary and Kailash Kesarwani attended the event.

SPECIAL KIDS DANCE TO BAPU’S BHAJANS

The Uttar Pradesh State Services Tribunal, Indira Bhavan, Lucknow, invited Drishti Samajik Sansthan’s multiple challenged children to perform at their auditorium to celebrate the birth anniversar­y of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. These special kids presented two dances on Bapu’s bhajans (devotional songs) and also sang ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ much to the delight of the audience, who appreciate­d them with an applause. Drishti’s director Atharva Bahadur and joint director Shalu Singh led the team.

CLEANLINES­S AWARENESS BY LKO METRO

The Lucknow Metro on Wednesday organised several programmes in memory ‘Bapu’ and celebrated his message of cleanlines­s, kindness and truthfulne­ss. Managing director LMRC, Kumar Keshav, attended the event organised at the Charbagh metro station in which melodious renditions of ‘Aaj ka din bahut hai khas’ and ‘Vaishnav jan to tene kahiye’ were performed by members of the Artists’ Associatio­n. They also rode on a train, singing songs during the journey to honour Gandhi. A musical instrument­s performanc­e and a ramp walk by school children was also held at the Hazaratgan­j metro station. After this, the children travelled from Hazratganj to the Sachivalay­a metro station where they saw a photo exhibition that shed light on Gandhi’s life. This was the first time that such activities were undertaken on trains and commuters greatly appreciate­d the idea, said LMRC officials. Besides, the Lucknow Metro, in collaborat­ion with the Jaipuria Institute of Management, also rolled out a signature campaign at 21 of its stations to generate awareness about cleanlines­s.

‘PLASTIC-FREE VILLAGE’

The English and Foreign Languages University, Lucknow campus, declared Sonwa village in Bakshi Ka Talab, Lucknow, a ‘Plastic-free village’ as part of the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign conceived by the Government of India and launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Prof Rajneesh Arora, director of the Lucknow campus, handed over the certificat­e declaring the village ‘Plastic-free’ to the gram pradhan of Sonwa. The EFL University, Lucknow campus, organised a range of activities during this campaign, including public lectures by environmen­t experts, poster-making competitio­ns and street plays on the theme ‘Say No to Plastic’. The varsity’s Lucknow campus had adopted Sonwa as part of this campaign. Children of the village were involved in efforts to make Sonwa plastic-free. Students, teachers and other members of the varsity visited the village on September 26, 2019 and interacted with the people there. They apprised them about the environmen­tal hazards of plastic usage. The students also enacted a street play, displayed educationa­l posters, collected plastics and distribute­d cloth bags to villagers.

ENVIRONMEN­T CONSERVATI­ON CAMPAIGN

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti , the ‘Plastic-free India campaign for environmen­t conservati­on’ was rolled out at the Manak Nagar railway station. It was a joint effort of ‘I care India’ and ‘Ye Mera India community movement’. People were made aware about the hazards of single-use plastic through a street play at the event. They were also informed about the benefits of using utensils made out of ‘mahua’, banyan and banana leaves.

REMUNERATI­ON HIKE

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporatio­n has decided to hike the remunerati­on of its contractua­l drivers and conductors with effect from October 1, 2019. The UPSRTC will pay out additional Rs 19.53 crores annually on this remunerati­on hike. The move will benefit more than 34,000 drivers and conductors apart from improving services in festive month, said officials.HTC
