Experts share legal insights, remedies provided under law
LUCKNOW: The RannSamar Foundation organised a seminar titled ‘Know Your Rights’ to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, here on Wednesday. The seminar, aimed at creating legal awareness among masses, was attended by Justice AR Masoodi (Allahabad High Court), OP Singh, DGP, Uttar Pradesh and renowned actror Bhagyashree.
A legal aid centre, to provide free legal aid to women, girl children and others, was also inaugurated. Addressing the event, Justice Masoodi shared his invaluable legal insights and experiences in hearing and deciding criminal cases in the state. “The judiciary has constantly endeavoured to render justice to victims of crimes on a timely basis and is the strongest pillar of democracy,” justice Masoodi said.
OP Singh, DGP, UP, provided an in-depth perspective to the challenges being faced by the police in fighting crimes. He applauded the work being done by RannSamar Foundation and he assured that police personnel would be sensitised to handle crime against women with extra sensitivity.
Singh’ speech was followed by the Bollywood actress, Bhagyashree, who assured to lend her support to the activities of the foundation, and said she would be more than happy to be its brand ambassador.

detailed presentation titled “Know Your Rights”. He spoke about various remedies provided under the criminal law for the people and enlightened the audience on procedures for quick reporting of crimes by filing an FIR.
The president of the RannSamar Foundation, Abha Singh said the foundation continues to work with the motto—‘we for justice’. Singh said the foundation was working for changing the patriarchal mindset and to empower women of the state through education and vocational skills.
“Some of the Dadaura’s girls, who dropped out of school due to financial crisis, were re-enrolled in schools by the foundation,” said Singh.
So far more than 200 girls had been trained by the organisation in tailoring, bag making and in other skills in order to make them economically empowered, she added.
