LUCKNOW: Following the boycott of the special session of the legislative assembly by the opposition parties, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) lawmakers not only highlighted the achievements of the state government, but also drew attention toward their demands as well as pending development and welfare schemes in their respective constituencies.

As chief minister Yogi Adityanath hit out at the opposition for shunning the special session, the ruling party MLAs applauded the CM. After completing his speech as the CM left the assembly, there was a virtual contest among the lawmakers to express their views. Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit assured them that they all will get an opportunity to speak in the 36-hour long session.

Each MLA was assigned to speak on one of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations, including eradication of poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action , life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnership for goals.

After speaking for a few minutes on the assigned topics, the MLAs started highlighting the achievements of the state government. They also used the opportunity to highlight the pending development and welfare schemes. Even as the Speaker called the names of the lawmakers who were enlisted to speak several MLAs raised their hands to draw his attention .

A BJP MLA said that during the Budget, monsoon and winter sessions of the assembly, the ruling party MLAs hardly get an opportunity to express their views as opposition parties lawmakers are allotted the maximum time to speak as well as to raise the issues during zero hour. They are also allotted time to draw the attention of the government to important issues whereas the ruling party MLAs remain a mute spectator, he said.

BJP MLA from Kithaur assembly seat in Meerut Satyaveer Tyagi said there is an immediate need to free River Kali from pollution. Kailash Nath Shukla , BJP MLA from Tulsipur assembly seat in Balrampur district said there is an immediate need to set a power plant in his constituency to streamline the power supply in the villages and town. He also demanded the construction of a bus station and health centre.

BJP MLA from Kalpi seat in Kanpur Narendra Pal Singh said there are a large numbers of temples constructed during the ancient and medieval period in his constituency. The temples are in a dilapidated condition and require immediate renovation, he said.

Tejpal Nagar MLA from Dadri seat in Gautam Buddha Nagar district said the acquisition of agriculture land for development projects had rendered a large number of youths jobless and the state government must provide reservation to the local youths in the industries coming up in the area. The government should allocate Rs

5 crore to the MLAs under the local area development fund, he said.

BJP MLAs DC Verma and Ramshakal Mishra too highlighted the problems faced by the people in respective constituencies. They urged the state government to expedite the development projects as well.
