Opposition parties scared of losing vote bank, says Yogi
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday flayed the opposition for indulging in politics of dynasty and targeted the Congress, SP and the BSP individually for ‘running away’ from the debate on sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the special session of assembly convened to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
“Those who gained power in the name of Mahatma Gandhi are boycotting the state assembly today. The Congress has been diverting the issues at a time when the BJP is talking of making India self-sufficient. The SP and the BSP indulged in caste politics while the BJP is talking about development,” said Yogi while initiating the debate on sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the special session of the assembly here on Wednesday.
“The opposition did not want the benefits of government schemes to reach the people. The opposition feared of losing its vote bank… 2019 Lok Sabha elections have proved this… the people have taught them a lesson and will do so again in future,” said Yogi. Dwelling at length on achievements of his government, Yogi said by turning away from debate on SDGs the opposition had turned their face away from the people and had gone out of people’s sight too. About the SDGs, Yogi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had begun work on these issues soon after formation of his government in 2014 though the UN adopted them later in 2015. He made a special mention of Clean India Mission that Modi launched on October 2, 2014 and said the mission had become a people’s moment now.
Yogi also referred to the campaign launched by him and his government to check Japanese Encephalitis.
