CHINMAYANAND’S JC EXTENDED TILL OCTOBER 16
LUCKNOW : The Shahjahanpur court on Thursday extended former union minister Swami Chinmayanand’s judicial custody till October 16. The court will hear the plea of the SIT seeking accused persons’ custody on Friday. The SIT had moved an application to take the accused to Lucknow for voice sampling. Chinmayanand was produced before the court through video conferencing on Thursday evening. Earlier on September 30, the district court had refused him bail, observing the offence as ‘grave’ in nature. Chinmayanand had been arrested on September 20 on charges of sexual misconduct and harassment levelled by a law student at an institution he ran in Shahjahanpur.
AGRA : Three minors were booked for gang-raping a girl at an orphanage in Agra city. The girl attempted suicide by jumping in the River Yamuna on Thursday but survived as there was no water there. Police arrested all three minors after registering a case under section 376 D of the Indian Penal Code. At around noon, on Thursday, volunteers of an NGO saw a girl jumping from a wall and sustained injuries on her head and limbs. Police was informed and girl was taken to the district hospital and then brought back to the orphanage. SP City Prashant Verma too reached the ashram and began investigation. The orphanage staff said that the victim was treated for a psychiatric disorder in the past. “The girl blamed two boys, also inmates and a cleaning staff, all three minors, of raping her. They have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. The victim has been sent for a medical examination,” said Itimad-ud-daula police station in-charge UV Singh.
