Indrani, Peter granted divorce

MUMBAI: A family court in Mumbai on Thursday granted divorce to former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani based on a petition they had filed in September last year.

“Today, the two were formally divorced after we submitted compliance of the consent terms. The court accepted it and granted divorce,” said Edith Dey, one of the advocates of the couple.

Indrani, 47, and Peter Mukerjea, 65, had got married in 2002. Their divorce came at a time when the couple face trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, Sheena Bora, in 2012. Both have been under judicial custody since their arrest in 2015.

At present, Indrani is lodged in Byculla women’s prison while Peter has been kept at the Arthur Road jail in central Mumbai.

After several rounds of discussion, the coupled had signed a consent term and moved a formal plea for divorce by mutual consent on September 18, 2018.
