Pak says it will meet FATF targets to get out of grey list
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has vowed that the Imran Khan government will positively “meet all the targets set” by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) so that the country can eventually get out of the terror watchdog’s grey list.
Speaking to reporters in Multan, Qureshi claimed that New Delhi failed to push Islamabad into the FATF blacklist while the country had been assigned several tasks till February next year.
Qureshi said the Paris-based FATF “recognised the steps taken” by the government to control money laundering and terror financing. He also urged the opposition parties to avoid steps that could give New Delhi leverage over Islamabad.
Last week, Pakistan breathed a sigh of relief after the international terror watchdog declared that Pakistan will remain on its grey list for four more months.
While acknowledging some of the measures taken by Pakistan to end terror financing and money laundering, the FATF suggested that much more needs to be done.
