Hosts Lucknow in state hockey semi-finals
LUCKNOW: Hosts and defending champions Lucknow along with Karampur, Gorakhpur and Varanasi’s Vivek Academy on Sunday, stormed into the semi-final of the KL Garg-JL Sharma Memorial State Sub-Junior Boys Hockey Tournament, notching up contrasting wins. At the muddy ground of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium, Lucknow defeated Varanasi 4-2 in penalty shootout after the two teams remained goalless in the regulation time in the first quarterfinal of the day. Karampur defeated Banda by 7-0 with Akash netting seven goals, Gorakhpur beat Attgawan 4-2 after being locked at 1-1 at the break, and Vivek Academy beat Jhansi 5-1 despite rivals good showing in the first half. Karampur meet Gorakhpur in the first semi-final on Monday at 1.00 p.m., whereas Lucknow take on Vivek Academy at 3.00 p.m. in the second semi-final.
EASY WINS
HAL School scored a convincing 46-run win against Greenfield School in a league match of the Inter School Cricket Tournament here on Sunday. In other matches of the day, Career Convent beat National Inter College by seven wickets, Bharti Vidya Bhawan beat Rashphil Academy by six wickets, and CMS Chowk beat Aliganj by seven wickets.
CHESS TOURNEY
The 30th Children’s Day Chase Championship will be held on November 10 at the Shivani Public School here. In all 70 players will be given entry in this tournament, which would be conducted in three categories i.e. under-16, 14 and 10. .

Lucknow’s Kashika Yadav would be representing Indian team in the Roll ball World Championship, scheduled to be held at Chennai from November 15 to 20. A resident of Indira Nagar locality here, young and energetic Kashika made the cut for the Indian squad after showing well in the camp of 24 probables at Surat recently. Kashika is being trained by Neeraj.
