KGMU CONDUCTS EIGHTH LIVER TRANSPLANT

LUCKNOW : KGMU doctors on Tuesday conducted a liver transplant in a 50-year-old man on Tuesday, the eighth liver transplant since April, when the transplant programme started here. The operation was conducted free of cost under the Asadhya Rog Scheme and KGMU funds, said a doctor. The patient is a resident of Lucknow and the liver (for transplant) was donated by his wife, said surgical gastroente­rology HoD Abhijit Chandra, who led the operation. It began in the morning at around 10 am and ended at 6 pm. “The patients are under medical observatio­n in the transplant ICU,” said Chandra. The recipient and donor, both will remain under observatio­n for the next 36 hours, said doctors.
