LUCKNOW :A day after violent protest, the old city area of Lucknow remained peaceful but tense under the close vigil of thousands of police personnel on Friday.

The call for protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and proposed National Register for Citizen (NRC) at Teele Wali Masjid failed to evoke good response.

In apprehension of a major protest in the state capital after the Friday prayers, the state government deployed additional police force near mosques. Despite heavy police deployment, traffic was not blocked in any part of the city.

The security arrangements were reviewed personally by additional chief secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi and Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh. The duo visited Teele Wali Masjid and reviewed security in parts of old city.

To ensure security, police officials who have served in the district in the past were given charge of the security. Inspector General of Police Navneet Sikera who had served as SSP and DIG of Lucknow handled situation in Thakurganj. Police team also used drone to monitor the movement of people. The protesters who were booked by police in connection with violence were manhandled by advocates inside local court premises on Friday.

A DAY WITHOUT NET

Life without internet. Well, Lucknow residents got the taste of it on Friday. While services of the standalone ATMs remained paralysed, people could be seen taking out money from those attached with banks. People also struggled to reach their work place on time as they could not book cabs. Those who managed to reach office, complained about not being able to place order for online meals.
