SUV lifted in Gomti Nagar, second in three days

-

LUCKNOW: A high end SUV was stolen from outside a house in Vibhuti Khand (Gomti Nagar) on Saturday, the second such theft in the past three days.

On Wednesday, an SUV was stolen from Aliganj. These back to back incidents have blown up the tall claims of police of round the clock vigil.

In Vibhuti Khand, the thief broke the window glass, entered the vehicle and drove off. The car was parked outside the house of one Jitendra Yadav. “We have submitted a CCTV footage of the incident to the police which shows that the accused reached the car at around 5:30 am,” said Yadav.

Station house officer (SHO) Rajeev Dwivedi said, “In the video footage, the thief is seen entering the car at 5:23 am and driving off at 5:30 am. The video is not clear enough to identify the thief. We are trying to identify

him and track the stolen car.”

While investigation is underway, officials claim the thief is a member of an auto lifters’ gang that is active in several parts of the state.

The gang members have been found involved in as many as seven incidents of car theft in the state capital.

Circle officer of Gomti Nagar Santosh Singh said, “The gang lifts vehicles that are driven

overnight, especially to northeastern states. They are also linked to auto lifters operating in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.”

The local police have alerted the toll plazas about the stolen vehicle.

Despite several arrests in the past, the cops have failed to stop the theft of SUVs. Senior officials claim that the gang hires new members and begin operations.
