CLIVE LLOYD, SAM MENDES AWARDED KNIGHTHOODS
LONDON:Knighthoods for director Sam Mendes and cricket legend Clive Lloyd were announced on Friday in the British New Year honours list, which includes singer-composer Elton John and a number of Indian-origin achievers described as “extraordinary”.
The royal honours list is released twice a year, on New Year’s Eve and on Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday on the second Saturday of June.
While John has been made a Companion of Honour, Lloyd and award-winning director Mendes were named for knighthoods.
The list includes linguist Aditi Lahiri and musician Jasvir Kaur Rababan.
Meanwhile, officials apologised after mistakenly publishing the addresses of more than 1,000 people who received honours.
The list has the following individuals of Indian heritage:
