Cash van driver’s bravery foils loot bid, one arrested

PRAYAGRAJ: The exemplary courage of a cash van driver averted a major loot attempt in Saini area of Kaushambi on Monday morning. Despite being hurled with crude bombs and firing by looters who were following the cash van, its driver did not stop the vehicle and somehow reached the nearest police station.

One of the looters was injured in an encounter with the police team later and was nabbed while his accomplice­s fled, police officials said.

According to reports, the cash van of Secure Value Company was going to deposit cash in an ATM in Deviganj area near Kada Dham under Saini Kotwali police.

The cash van carrying Rs 45 lakh had reached near Kamasin village when the miscreants, who were hiding there, hurled crude bombs on it.

The miscreants then gave a chase to the van when its driver Anish Pal did not stop. One of the tyres of the cash van was punctured when the looters opened fire.

However, the driver still moved the car and managed to reach Saini Kotwali police station where he informed the cops of the incident.

After being alerted, a hunt was launched under superinten­dent of police, Kaushambi, Abhinandan.

The miscreants were finally surrounded by the police team in an orchard in Nanmai village several kilometers away from the spot of the incident.

However, the miscreants opened fire on the police team and tried to flee.

One of them received a bullet in his leg when cops opened fire in retaliatio­n. He was also nabbed while his three aides fled.

The arrested miscreant was identified as Balwant Kushwaha of Mirzapur district.

Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) KP Singh said the arrested miscreant was being questioned to trace the whereabout­s of his aides.
