Student groups announce protest against CAA

LUCKNOW:: After women, some students groups have announced protest against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizen (NRC) and National Population Register(NPR) in the state.

“Our mothers and sisters are out on streets to protect the constituti­on. We will join them in this struggle,” said N Sai Balaji, national president of All India Student Associatio­n (AISA) while addressing a meeting in Lucknow on Thursday.

The meeting was called by Young India Coordinati­on Committee (YINCC), a consortium of over a dozen students’ groups active across the country. The group is said to have been formed a month ago to mobalise support for the protest against CAA, NRC and NPR.

The meeting in Lucknow was attended by current and former student members of groups like AISA, SFI (Student Federation of India), Samajwadi Chatra Sangh etc.

Students’ representa­tives from Lucknow University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Allahabad University also attended the meeting.

The organisers of the meeting claimed that they had also invited ABVP.

The group has planned to organise door to door awareness campaign regarding CAA, NRC and NPR. “We will make people understand these new laws and how they will harm the essence of our democracy. If this happens, it will not only harm people of a particular community it will effect each one of us,” said Balaji. The group will also give a call of “Dilli Chalo” to particpate in mass anti-CAA, NRC,

NPR rally during first week of March. Meanwhile, the protest by women at Ujarion in Gomti Nagar completed a month on Wednesday. The women observed a two minutes of silence to mark the occasion.
