Spl squad to check overpricing of masks
LUCKNOW: In view of frequent complaints , the district administration has formed a special squad to check overpricing of hand sanitizers and masks . District officials said that action would be initiated under legal metrology rule 2011 against those found indulging in the malpractice . Besides, it has also set up a toll free helpline no18001800300 to report overpricing.
Mukesh Meshram, divisional commissioner, who held a meeting on the issue, said the decision had been taken in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
“Initiative has been taken by legal metrology department in order to check overpricing of the commodities including hand sanitizers, masks etc, the complaints of which are frequent,” the divisional commissioner said. While referring to the order, Meshram said the cases would be booked under legal metrology act (packaged commodity rules) against those who were overcharging commodities, required to fight COVID-19.
Besides, it has also issued a letter stating, “No retail dealer or other person including manufacturer, packager, importer and wholesale dealer make any sale of any commodity in packed form at a price exceeding the retail sale price thereof.”
He said that people could also inform about overpricing on the helpline number. Meanwhile, district magistrate Abhishek Prakash said that the administration carried out a surprise check at the medical stores during the late evening hours of Saturday to check overpricing of sanitizers, masks etc.
